This is the reality for many children in Tanzania living with epilepsy. At the Tanzania Epilepsy Organisation (TEO), we fight not just seizures, but the darkness of ignorance. We do this through education and training, not just for the mind, but for the heart.

Imagine classrooms buzzing with understanding, not fear. We train teachers to create safe spaces where children with epilepsy can learn without shame. No more whispered taunts, just the joy of discovery. Look at Mary, once ostracized, now leading her class with a confident smile. Education unlocks potential, and we've seen over 500 children like Mary thrive with our support.

But education isn't just for children. Mothers, the pillars of their families, often carry the heaviest burden. We empower them with knowledge about epilepsy, seizure management, and navigating a complex healthcare system.Just last month, 20 mothers in a rural village learned how to administer medication correctly, giving their children a fighting chance. The relief in their eyes, the newfound strength in their voices – that's the impact of education.

But knowledge without skills is a half-opened door. That's why we offer vocational training programs, equipping individuals with epilepsy with the skills they need to build their futures. Carpentry, tailoring, computer skills – these are tools that break down barriers and open doors to employment and independence.Just last year, 15 individuals graduated from our tailoring program, their faces beaming with pride as they stitched not just clothes, but dreams.

Education and training are not just about facts and figures; they are about hope. They are about dismantling the walls of stigma, brick by brick. They are about empowering individuals to write their own stories, stories of resilience, dignity, and achievement. It's about seeing a child's potential, a mother's strength, and an individual's dream – and nurturing them all into reality.
